One of the most promising players of Indian Olympic campaign, Abhinav Bindra has gave us a reason to smile. He has done what an Indian has done never before i.e. winning a gold in Olympics. In final shot he got 10.8 out of possible 10.9 to finish clear first.In a country like India where people have almost no craze for any other game except Cricket, Bindra has proved that you can do good in any game provided you have the devotion.
He comes from a family of Mohali who are Promotors of HITECH GROUP OF COMPANIES having turnover of more than 300 crore.Still he chose shooting instead of Business.Starting the shooting practise at the age of 12 and practising 12-14 hours a day at the age of 16-18 wasn't easy for him. But all Bindra had was devotion and that was what gave him the ticket to olympic'2000 at an age of just 17 to becomeindia's youngest olympic player and a final show at olympic'04 finishing 7th at age of 21 and an olympic gold at 25.
In 2004 olympic he was very near to what he has done now. Before final he was no. 1 ahead of world rank 1 player. But due to some irregularity at shooting range in finals , he couldn't do so well. Later when he discovered it he was to late to appeal and india missed a medal. But he didn't lose heart and has won this time.
Before Beijing olympics, Bindra had also won World Championship Gold(2006), Two Commonwealth golds(2002,2006 both in Team event), one asian games gold(2006), one commonwealth silver(2002) and one commonwealth bronze(2006).
I don't know what Govt. of India will award him as he has already been given Arjuna Award(2000) and Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna Award(2001).Will Indian Govt. award him Bharat Ratna!!!!!! Let's see!
